Someone cannot get his facts straight.
I Never claimed an auction was ended.
It was stated the auction could not be found in completed auctions- which was true, I verified it myself.
I replied that generally- note the word generally- - happens for one reason, that info verified with Ebay.
I have owned 1940's and 1950's Alted cabinets with production stamps inside.
That pretty much expresses my opinion, which is solely my responsibilty and no others.

Yeah, I've seen many an ink stamped Altec cab and if there's no markings, then IMO folks can't claim any authenticity, only market such items as 'appears to be' or to the best of my knowledge', etc.. Bottom line though is that it's a caveat emptor situation and fools and their money are soon parted, so probably nothing can be done about it other than for us to continue to debate such things with the understanding we're just trying to fill in any historical gaps in our Altec history library when such 'rare' finds are presented.
I wish I still had a lawyer buddy though because I'd sure like to know where the legal line gets drawn between his 'defamation'/ability to decide what's authentic and our collective knowledge/freedom of speech to debate and offer our opinion of the component(s) in question.

I suspect we were nowhere near the legal that. that is my opinion and no one else is responsible for it.
Were I in the same situation I would attempt to prove my case rather than resort to blustering and threats. Again that is my opinion only, and almost certainly not the opinion of this board and it's operators.
It would be a sad day for the United States If blustering and threats were to control free discourse.
I may not agree with what you say, but I will fight, to the death, for your right to say it.
That BTW was obviously not mine, but an opinion I share.

I agree with you, GM - it seems to me that we can now get sued (or threatened with a lawsuit) over our opinions...that's what I was up against.
Or, at least, that was my interpretation of the words and events, as they appeared to be occurring while I was there...

Todd I have no intest in putting you in jeopardy.
It would be great if we could cultivate an attorney who loved old audio gear...I know a few who are musicians..
All future posts will be accompanied by a disclaimer they are my opinion
Regarding quantities of Altec gear- I worked for an Altec contractor for 7 years, then for a large retailer who sold Altec...I'm afraid someone would lose that pissing contest...my opinion only...but a contestant would have had to handle thousands of items...I did.

Excellent exchange here guys because I sure don't need to buy stuff from a guy who flips the Lawyer Card and that is MY OPINION!

I totally agree, Gary. The guy left a bad taste in my mouth when I asked about a pair of 902's that he had on auction. Wouldn't even give me a response to my question about the diaphragms. After this episode, I'll avoid him for sure.

"I'm a better expert than any of you people who actually used the stuff, and if you disagree I'll sue you!"
Just an opinion, nothing more.
